Expressing
the American Experience through color

“Flash Dome” (purchased) — Print Available on Fine Art America

We have an apartment on Capitol Hill that we call “The Flat.” Many people only know Capitol Hill through a screen and talking heads, but through my experience as a congressional wife and artist, I have learned that there is usually more to the story…

So where many in Washington offer words and opinions, I give you oil and canvas. In a place where many stories are told at all times of the day and night, I give you paintings — sharing with you my view from the Flat and my American story.

Thank you for stopping by my view of Washington to either just take a look, purchase a print, or commission an original piece.

Elizabeth

He encouraged me to keep a brush in my hand, and I never looked back.

My art career began with a painter born in Sarajevo, my college art professor named Iso Papo. He saw I had a gift, and his words, encouragement, and training launched me into my career in art.

My perspective was shaped by another immigrant narrative — the story of my own family and our flight from Stalin’s tyranny. I am the granddaughter of immigrants who escaped the trauma of Ukrainian devastation. Through this unique lens, I choose to see the color and the story that God is always painting, no matter the painful past, and how He redeems and restores everything.

I now capture on canvas the beauty of the American life my grandparents pursued.

Movement & Mystery

“The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”
Luke 1:35

Mary’s posture is one of submission with her hands held out in acceptance, allowing the will of the Father to be fulfilled. In Scripture, the Holy Spirit is sometimes described as wind or as fire, and I depict these two elements surrounding and enveloping Mary.

My brushstrokes create the motion of wind within a colorful fire, and the Holy Spirit overshadows Mary and envelopes her.

Through the use of vibrant colors, I express the awesomeness of this event: the birth of Jesus Christ changed all of human history. He is God’s greatest gift to us. My hope is that “Movement and Mystery” will be used by the Holy Spirit to draw the viewer to Him.

Step into my gallery

There is a prayer from Scripture that is very dear to our family; in fact, my husband and I have prayed these verses over our children every night:

The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make His face to shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn His face toward you
and give you peace
(Numbers 6:24-26).

This is my prayer for you, too, as you view my pieces — that you would experience the peace of Christ. So whether you came through Washington or by any other route, I am honored you are here.

Where words fall short, I leave you with strokes of brilliance: color and perspective. Thank you for stopping by my gallery and opening your eyes to see the light of Jesus Christ that shines upon us all.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth
